The Seventh Day
Sundays were never my thing… Never ever. The weekend is over even before it began – and you have to get ready for school, or for college, or for work… Up until recently, when my daughter (1,5 years old) taught me that Sundays are also weekend. And should be used as they were meant to be used: to spend time with the people you love, and enjoy every single minute, including the ones spent in housework or preparations for the coming Monday.
This Sunday our family parliament has unanimously voted to start with a visit to Vodno… If you’re the kind that prefer places with coffee, nature, enough space for running and stuff, and all this without too much fuss or noise, the top of Vodno is the real place! Although I was very skeptical in the beginning, I would like to use this opportunity to say hurray to the one who got the idea to construct the skylift on Vodno: Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
You have several options to get to the skylift:
- by foot – for the more ambitious
- with the JSP special bus line – for the adventurous types
- by car – for the lazy ones
The skylift works every day, from 09:00 to 19:00 in October, and is the simpliest and not very expensive way (100 MKD for a regular and 50 MKD for a ticket for a child aged 6-14, with additional discounts for group visits) to get to the top of Vodno with a child, a stroller, a bike… It is accessible to all, which is, needless to say, quite rare already!
Once you are at the top, you have several options. The one we chose was a coffee to go from the kiosk below the Millennium Cross and a walk to the nearby meadows, one of which has a children’s playground. And all this with an amazing view of the city, covered with a lid of smog. While you are there you can also get to the top of the Millennium Cross with the elevator, or have tea in the Mountaineering House next to it. On your way back you can either use the skylift or go by foot in 40 minutes (with one child and a stroller).
My suggestion for an afternoon coffee and some “meze” is the tennis club in the yard of Gjorgji Dimitrov high school: Mak tenis pro. They have good coffee, pizzas, salads, etc., plus a children’s playground (small but nice). It is (even strangely) peaceful during weekends, surrounded by trees and greenery. I hope that this post will not be read by one of the so-called investors who always get inspired to change this green reality with two or three buildings. Even five with the new construction standards…
For the end of the day, we invited some dear friends of ours and baked sweet apricot croissants. Total expense: 150 MKD for 10 pieces. We found the recipe on 24 Kitchen, and you can take a look here (the video is in Dutch, but it is really simple).
Such a beautiful day guarantees sufficient amounts of positive energy for a great start of the work week 🙂 And here’s a song for a beautiful day: String Forces: Laleto
